@gryffyn @earth2io Yyeeeaaaahh, don't get me wrong, I do think the technology looks cool, I'm glad someone is doing it, it will move things along... All true. I just... I don't really see the point of a digital world with an economy that functions more or less like a real one.
@nytimestravel It's not the first gondola at Big Sky, just FYI. And despite all the fancy upgrades, the resort is going downhill in quality and is shutting out locals and other guests who have lived and worked in the area for generations because of the insane prices.
@gryffyn @earth2io Ok, just from looking at the homepage, I can tell this also seems to have treated parts of snow crash like an instruction manual. 😂 There's some line in the book that talks about the appreciation of digital real estate in the metaverse in eerily similar terms.

@gryffyn @earth2io Hey, I mean, I'm not willing to give up on the whole concept. VR is really cool. The potential of the metaverse is vast. I have just always thought that the metaverse done right is going to leave behind the quest for profit entirely.
It's like these guys read Snow Crash and thought it was an instruction manual rather than a stark warning.
Great opportunity for someone to build something that is designed to maximize fun and community rather than profit. Build THAT and people will stop scoffing when you say "metaverse."
The metaverse doesn't HAVE to be an ad-driven, crypto-sloshing dystopian playground. The big players are all talking about building a metaverse that sounds, frankly, horrific.

@TwitterA11y @christiancmann @sysop408 I have a hard time with this because I don't consider the addition of alt text to be an edit. For many, this is an essential part of a post. I also cross-post images from other apps to Twitter. I'd hope I could access the alt text process after the fact.
